Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) invites you to be a part of its maiden virtual international conference on Library and Information Science, organized in collaboration with the Department on Library and Information Science, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, National Science Library and Resource Centre (NSLRC) of the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka and Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kerala, India. The theme of the conference is “Challenges of Library and Information Science Profession in New Normal Context.”

The VICLIS2021 aims to bring together the Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals, researchers,research scholars, and LIS students to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of Library Science. This FREE and virtual conference also provides a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of Library Science.

Objectives

The main objectives of VICLIS 2021

    • Initiating an awareness of the hidden challenges during the ‘new normal’ context.
    • Providing an opportunity to (LIS) professionals, researchers, research scholars and students to share their research outputs, knowledge, and experiences.
  • To enhance and strengthen the professional LIS network among the national and international librarians.

Sri Lanka Technological Campus

The Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) has been conferred the Most Emerging Education Institute of the Year Award at the South Asian Partnership Summit and Business Excellence Awards in 2019 held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The library of SLTC plays a vital role in fulfilling the information requirements of its users. The library supports the educational needs of the students, faculty, and staff of the SLTC. The mission of the library is “To provide high-quality scholarly information resources, responsive user services, and a user-friendly environment for information access to faculty, students, and staff of the SLTC in supporting their teaching, learning, and research activities.” In addition to the main library services, the library services also include inquiry service and search/research assistance, reference interviews, online document delivery service, selective dissemination of content page (SDI Service), current awareness services (CAS), orientation programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students, conference alert service,interlibrary loan service, outreach services, organizing international and national webinars on related disciplines and new arrival display, etc. To provide equal opportunities for all library users, the library offers services for people who have physical disabilities such as visual impairments.

Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka

The Department of Library and Information Science was established in 1973 to create and share knowledge in Library and Information Science. The Department strives for in the field of Library and Information Management through innovation, research, and dissemination of knowledge and capacity building for socio-economic development of the nation, Asia, and beyond. The Department further aims to provide advanced knowledge, skills, attitudes, mindset, and paradigm to the learners, to provide each learner with an opportunity to become a competent librarian/information manager/worker and technology literate person effectively and socially, to promote quality research culture by providing both theoretical and practical knowledge, and to strengthen national information industry for effective decision making, problem-solving, and serving relevant information to clients.

National Science Library and Resource Centre (NSLRC), National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka

As the National Focal Point for the dissemination of Science & Technology (S&T) Information in the country, the National Science Library and Resource Centre (NSLRC) of the NSF provides an efficient information dissemination service to the scientific community using information communication technologies through the strengthening of linkages and networks, by carrying out necessary programs to foster the interchange of scientific information among scientists in Sri Lanka and foreign countries, by serving as the national repository of science and technology literature by facilitating an efficient science and technology information service through training of library professionals and provision of technical assistance. The efficiency of the information service is enhanced through SLISTINET (Sri Lanka Science and Technology Information Network-) operated among more than science and technology libraries in the country.

Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kerala, India

The department was founded in 1961 on the initiative of the then University Librarian Professor K. A. Isaac is the premier school of librarianship and information science in Kerala and one of the early teachingand research departments in the University of Kerala. Located in the Kerala University Library Building, presently the department offers MLISc. and M. Phil. programs. It also enrolls candidates for research leading to Ph. D degree. Besides, the department undertakes research projects, continuing education programs, and extension activities and offers consultancy services. Initially, there was only the Bachelor ofLibrary Science (B. Lib. Sc.) course, which was later renamed as Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLISc).
