Library 2.0

 maybe a transformation within the way library services is delivered to library users. It provides new tools to form the library space (both virtual and physical) more interactive, collaborative, and driven by community needs.

It encourages collaborative tow-way social interactions between library staff and library customers. L2 requires user participation and feedback within the development and maintenance of library services.

The phrase was coined by Michael Casey in his blog, Library Crunch, in 2005, although the concepts that collectively structure “Library 2.0” existed well before then. The term was a bear of “Web 2.0” which had been coined by O’Reilly Media.

In 2009, Holmberg et al. identified 7 Rules for  Library 2.0: “interactivity, users, participation, libraries and library services, web and web 2.0, social aspects and technology and tools”, and offer the subsequent definition for Library 2.0: “Library 2.0 may be a change in the interaction between users and libraries during a new culture of participation catalyzes by social web technologies.”

Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is the boon of our century. It ensures that practically no one is beyond reach. The services made possible through employing web 2.0 are characteristically interactive, open, and pliable to vary, and there’s constant improvement. Youth are the hugest consumers of social media, but even news corporations are using the technologies to draw in more viewers.

Knowledge of those technologies helps one to remain updated in the world. Web 2.0 may be a merging of technologies, people, and attitude that has created a crucial shift within the way we expect about and use the web. There are some ways that Web 2.0 are often wont to benefit organizations by saving them time and money and offering a replacement mode of interaction with customers.

Library 2.0Podcasting

To record audio files and make them available online in order that a user can download them for listening, either immediately or at a later time. Although a podcast is often listened to on any suitable hardware. (i.e. a computer or MP3 player), the term ‘podcast’ derives its name from the iPod, the very fashionable, portable MP3 player made by Apple.

Podcasting is that the serving of audio or video files, normally in MPEG format, through RSS subscription services or individually through websites. The podcasts files themselves, normally referred to as episodes, are played on portable audio/video devices like iPods or on personal computers.

Podcasting is sharing, uploading, and downloading music files, audio files, any quiet media enter fact to one’s IPod from the online. The User can create their own material and ‘podcast’ them on major podcasting websites, for others.

Podcasting is becoming increasingly popular in education. Podcasts enable students and teachers to share information with anyone at any time. An absent student can download the podcast of the recorded lessons. It is often a tool for teachers or administrators to speak curriculum, assignments, and other information with parents and therefore the community.

Teachers can record discussions, vocabulary or foreign language lessons, international pen-friend letters, music performance, interviews, and debates. Podcasting is often a publishing tool for student oral presentations. Video podcasts are often utilized in these ways also.

Podcasting allows the user to upload one’s own material through his/her device [primarily from an iPod] to the web, share the fabric, and download podcasts “podcast” by other such users also.

Vodcasting
A vodcast may be a video podcast, a step beyond podcasting. It adds video to the downloadable sound files podcast listeners are used to. it’s the publishing/syndication of video files rather than audio files using an equivalent technology as podcasting. Vodcasting/Vidcasting/Vloggingare all current nicknames for distributing podcasts that feature video.

 Vodcasts:
Many academic libraries are experimenting with video tutorials or vodcasts as a way of reference and instruction.
Library VodCasts are often wont to demonstrate the way to access electronic resources. databases, e-books and find materials using library search tools like the cataloger and electronic databases.

Use of Instant Message (IM)

Instant messaging allows online communication between two or more people using typed text via computes in real-time. the appliance of instant messaging in libraries and knowledge centers to supply a virtual reference service increases the supply of services to clients provides a further method of communication to clients and conveys the library to the community. The reference staff should be versed in the fundamentals of IM.
