University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, simply called UGC-NET, is a nationwide test, taken to assess eligibility for the Eligibility for lecturership in College and universities as well as, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to Indian nationals. It’s organized by National Testing Agency, NTA on behalf of the UGC.
Eligibility
Educational Qualification:
Candidates must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science, etc.
For General category candidates, a minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off) is required, and for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Transgender candidates, 50%.
Age Limit:
For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The age limit is 30 years. The age relaxation of up to 5 years is given to OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PWD, Transgender, and Women candidates.
For Assistant Professorship: There is no upper age limit.
Exam Pattern Ugc net
The UGC-NET exam has two papers that are held in a single three-hour session without any break:
Paper I: Ugc net
Objective: To evaluate the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate.
Duration: 1 hour.
Number of Questions: 50 compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks.
Syllabus: General nature, intending to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. Primarily, it consists of reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness.
Paper II: Ugc net
Purpose: Based on the subject selected by the candidate.
Duration: 2 hours.
Number of Questions: 100 compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks.
Syllabus: Based on the subject chosen by the candidate (over 80 different subjects).
