The Directorate of Research and Medical Education, Punjab was established in 1973. the most aim of this directorate is development of Medical Manpower, quality education within the field of drugs and preparation of specialist and super specialist doctors within the state to enhance the slandered of Medical Education and promote Research activities within the Medical Colleges of the Punjab State. to realize this aim the below written Government institutes are established within the State of Punjab and every one these are inspected and recognized/Affiliated by Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India, Central Council of Indian Medicine System and Indian Nursing Council etc. :-

This was the primary Medical College in Pepsu State with a population of over 20 lacs. The Rajendra Hospital, Patiala, was under construction when the school started. the inspiration stone of the school building was laid by Dr. Rajendra Parshad then President of India on 21.12.1953. The opening ceremony of Rajendra Hospital, Patiala was performed by the Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, in 1954.

Apart from Basic/Clinical departments some super-specialty departments also are functioning. Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, ICCU are functioning in Medicine Deptt. and Urology, Pediatrics, Surgery, cosmetic surgery, I.C.U also are functional. Psychiatry Deptt. of this Institution has been upgraded. additionally thereto De-addiction Centre, ART Centre /EDUSET, Telemedicine, I.T.Cell also are functional. the school has 4 hostels for UGs and one hostel for PGs. it’s a beautiful auditorium, vast playgrounds, swimming bath, and gymnasium and college canteen. the school features a separate library building within the campus housing IT Cell. there’s an ME Cell too.

Government Medical College, Amritsar

Government Medical College Amritsar is one of the oldest premier medical education institutes of the country. It traces its foundation as a school of medicine in Lahore as early as 1864 and later being established in Amritsar in 1920. the school features a cherished history and earned for itself an area of pride within the field of medical education and patient care within the region.

The institute has begun to include information technology by spearheading the fixing of an Information Technology Centre (ITC) in 2003 that generated an enthusiastic response both from the teaching faculty and students. The Centre also houses telemedicine equipment, a VSAT linkage, and networks with other premier health and health informatics institutes of the country.

The modernization drive of the school has broader dimensions. the school is being upgraded under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. additionally to upgrading the prevailing departments, this project envisages modern buildings – Bebe Nanaki Centre for Mother & Child Care and therefore the Guru Teg Bahadur Diagnostic and Superspeciality Block. additionally, the school of Nursing and therefore the Swami Vivekananda Deaddiction Centre are completed and are fully operational.
